LEED 300
Continuing Education Credits
“For professionals participating in the design and construction phases of high-performance, healthful, durable, affordable and environmentally sound commercial, institutional, and high-rise residential buildings.”– U.S. Green Building Council 2010
In 2009, the USGBC overhauled their LEED accreditation system, instituting a three-tiered LEED Professional Credential system. Earning the designation of a LEED Accredited Professional (AP) now entails more stringent eligibility requirements, selection of a specialty realm of practice, and a passing score on a two-part exam (the first part being the “Green Associate” exam). A LEED AP BD+C (Building Design + Construction) is a professional who possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the design process, to support and encourage integrated design, and to streamline the application and certification process for a myriad of green building types.
The BD+C Specialty Exam covers the breadth of topics in the Green Associate (GA) Exam, but in much more depth. Exam questions are much more technical in nature than the GA exam questions, and assess the insight and critical thinking skills of a building design professional. Preparing for the exam requires the ability to identify and absorb the critical concepts of the LEED for Building Design & Construction Reference Guide, and apply it towards answering complex (and sometimes intentionally misleading) exam questions.
The Quality Growth Institute has designed and developed the LEED 300: LEED Building Design + Construction (BD+C) Exam Prep course to help the design professional navigate through the vast collection of technical concepts and focus on the pertinent strategies for passing the exam. While there are many exam prep options available today, there are several reasons why our course provides a unique value:
- Instructor-led, nine (9) hour course in an informal setting, where you are encouraged to ask questions of the instructors
- Instructors are architects and engineers with LEED project experience, that relate concepts to real world examples
- Challenging sample questions are presented, and then dissected in the class to help demonstrate good exam-taking strategy
- A simple, “no-nonsense” course manual that serves as a valuable study guide for further preparation after the course
- Opportunity to network with other attendees, and share information to help navigate the LEED Professional Credential path
- Follow up after the course to assist in exam preparation
- Continuing Education Credits for many professional requirements (including RE!)
NOTES:
- Exam registrants must be able to document personal experience on a LEED-registered project within three years of the application submittal date.
- A passing score on the Green Associate exam must be achieved along with the BD+C exam passing score. This course only covers preparation for the BD+C exam (see information regarding the QGI’s LEED 200: Green Associate Exam Prep course for more info regarding the Green Associate exam)
- Course attendees should download a free copy of the LEED AP Building Design + Construction Candidate Handbook from the USGBC website. Attendees are also encouraged to obtain a copy of the LEED for Building Design & Construction Reference Guide (which can be purchased on the USGBC website).
